The stock 2017+ Toyota 86 is a reliable sports coupe with a remarkable history. Also known as a Twin or even the 86, the Toyota 86 shares it roots with the Subaru shared platform BRZ and Scion FR-S.
At the time, Toyota wanted to build a sports coupe under their Scion brand and asked Subaru Motors to build the engine. Subaru liked the concept and design so much they sold it as the Subaru BRZ with subtle exterior and interior differences. Hence the name Twin.
Eventually, Scion folded as a company but Toyota kept the concept alive as the 86 and Subaru continues to give us the BRZ.
